Heritage & Culture

Many of our projects are listed or locally protected buildings, and we work closely with Historic Building Consultants and the local Conservation Officer to provide sympathetic restoration and conversion. We don’t copy the style or materials of the existing but provide interventions which are both contemporary but also harmonise with the form and materiality of the original building. As well as grade II-listed, the moated site at Bleach Farm is a Scheduled Monument, where we worked closely with Historic England to minimise in-ground disturbance and utilise the existing footprint as far as possible. For the Grade II-listed Old Nags Head, we designed a full-height glazed link to provide a clear definition between the existing historic thatched Manor House and the more contemporary extension with its zinc roof and limed oak plank and muntin cladding. For some of our heritage projects, virtually all the work is internal with just repair work to the external fabric, such as the School House, and the Grade II listed townhouse in Great Yarmouth, which was converted to five flats.
